The provisions defined in this general binding rule are specifically drafted to regulate SMEs involved in animal husbandry and dairy production. Conditions are aimed at ensuring good environmental performance through the reduction of hazards related to effluent discharges, wastes and emissions to the atmosphere.
GBR 15 - Medical, dental, veterinary clinics and hospitals group
This GBR regulates small-scale activities involved in the treatment of human and animal health in small hospitals and clinics. Larger scale activities of this nature are regulated under environmental permits issued on an individual basis by Mepa.
Waste generated in hospitals, most of which is hazardous, and emissions to the atmosphere (particularly from generators/ boilers) have been prioritised and addressed in GBR no. 15. These proposed GBRs have been drawn up by Mepa with the aim of assisting small-scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden.
Both the proposed GBRs and guidance notes are being made available on the Mepa website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs.
Comments can be sent to the authority via e-mail at gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
