The environmental conditions and standards specified in this GBR are intended to improve environmental performance of SMEs involved in the manufacture of electronic equipment and specialised instrumentation, including electronic components, optical and photographic equipment. Environmental issues addressed in this GBR are very similar to those of GBR No.3, with waste management and storage, emissions and effluent discharges being the main issues.
GBR No. 6 - Furniture and Wood Products Group
This GBR targets manufactures of office, kitchen and any other furniture, together with wood-based products, including chairs and windows, and sets out conditions aimed at ensuring good environmental performance and minimise local nuisance. Furniture and wood products group GBR focuses on the regulation of hazards related to emissions, accumulation of waste and its storage, as well as effluent discharge and wastewater management.
These proposed General Binding Rules (GBRs) have been drawn up by Mepa with the aim of assisting small scale businesses to achieve compliance with national environmental laws while avoiding excessive administrative burden.
Both the proposed GBRs and Guidance Notes are being made available on Mepa website www.mepa.org.mt/gbrs. Comments can be sent to the Authority through e-mail address: gbr@mepa.org.mt by not later than December 7.
