Mepa has 15 officials recognised as environmental inspectors.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi told Leo Brincat (PL), this number did not change since 2005. Twelve of these still worked within the Environmental Directorate and another person was soon to be appointed in the next few days. There was currently a call to engage another six junior assistant compliance officers.

Dr Gonzi added that various other officials within the directorate performed work linked to compliance – a more modern concept that ensured that laws are respected.
