Thirty-six Autocross and eight Banger racers were on the starting grid for the second event of the ASM Poiatti Championships on Sunday.

Though the track was very damp due to the rain that fell on Saturday, the conditions of the surface improved as racing was in progress.

In no time, the cars were circling the tracks at normal speeds with the best of grip.

The finals, especially those in Class A, were very exciting from start to finish. Leader Pat Cassar retired after five laps, Joseph Micallef taking the lead ahead of champion Noel Vella. Michael Pace also retired, thus paving the way for Barry York to clinch third place.

Class B was dominated by Karm Mifsud on his Imp, followed by Ivan Birmingham on a Honda 46. Roderick Cutajar, also driving a Honda 8, qualified for Class A but ASM rules stipulate that he must run in Class B for the first two competitions.

The Bangers class was very entertaining through each heat of 10 laps. Overtaking was the order of the day, with the cars swerving sideways in many of the track bends.
