Summer is over and good riddance to the hundreds of Spanish students that have tarnished Malta’s tourism image with both residents and genuine tourists.

We feel the language schools, the Spanish Embassy and even the government should tackle this problem ahead of next summer.

We have been insulted and called names by these students and there were moments when we were challenged to get out of our homes and confront them in the streets.

This is the kind of rabble that Malta can do without and it is up to the Tourism Secretariat and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association to make it clear that there are laws in Malta to be respected, especially rowdiness after 11 p.m.

The Sliema local council is impotent in this regard and night phone calls to the police stations result in an engaged tone for hours.

Enough is enough. It’s time for action to be taken.
