Strengthening the use of the English language should be a national priority, according to Labour leadership contender Evarist Bartolo.

Should the poor quality of the English language used in Malta persist, Malta would suffer socially, culturally and economically, Mr Bartolo warned during a visit to the Global Village English centre, St Paul's Bay.

He suggested that the government should team up with English language schools to capitalise on their experience and technique in a bid to improve the use of English.
