Former Liverpool and England star John Barnes tips Brazil to lift the World Cup on home soil, arguing that European sides will probably struggle to adapt to the humid South American climate.

As for England's prospects, he said that the current crop of young players was very promising but probably needed a couple of years to reach their full potential.

The former international who was part of the last Liverpool team to clinch the English League in 1990, yesterday addressed a children's charity event at the Hilton.

The event, sponsored by the Malta Tourism Authority, was as part of a three day conference in Malta organised by the Institute of Travel and Tourism of the UK which ends today.
