When the Faculty of ICT was set up three years ago the Communications and Computer Engineering stream and the area of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics were moved from the Faculty of Engineering to form part of the new faculty.

This is a reflection of the situation in industry, which has brought together communications, computer science and computer information systems into one holistic environment, with practitioners needing to be knowledgeable in the basics of the three areas and proficient in one of them.

Moreover, there are synergies between system design and its implementation within integrated circuits (IC).

Students can therefore study the whole cycle of software, telecommunications, hardware and IC design.

Sixth Form students who intend to follow an engineering course in these areas should visit the ICT Faculty's website www.um.edu.mt/ict for further information.
