Trenching and pipe-laying works through the Kappara roundabout were completed on Monday night, further reinforcing Enemalta’s electricity distribution network.

Enemalta employees and contractors worked throughout the night to excavate a trench and lay a number of pipes for cables feeding electricity to the Manoel Island distribution centre.  Together with another centre at St Andrew’s, the distribution centre will help improve the quality of service to localities, including St Julian’s, Sliema, Gżira and Ta’ Xbiex. These will be commissioned in 2016.   The two centres form part of a major project from 2014 to reinforce the national electricity grid. The construction started in previous years, but due to a number of difficulties, it was not completed.

Another two new distribution centres are being developed at Xewkija and Marsa, while a number of existing centres, including those at Mellieħa, Marsa and Santa Venera, are being upgraded with new equipment.
