Enemalta responded to over 400 calls for assistance during the storms over the weekend.

It said the rough weather damaged overhead power lines, electricity poles and street lights.

Extra technicians were called in to assist in the repairs, which continued round the clock until Monday morning. Priority was given to damage which affected power supply and caused a danger.

In some cases repairs could not take place at night or during rough weather, for safety reasons.

Enemalta chairman Fredrick Azzopardi thanked the workers.

“In such situations customer care representatives, technicians, engineers and other Enemalta employees are required to work under pressure and in difficult conditions to coordinate and complete repairs in the shortest time possible. Their efforts are commendable,”  he said.

He also thanked those who reported damage.
