Enemalta’s top management alone is responsible whenever the power supply is cut.

During the first week of August those of us who live in the southwest of the island experienced interminable hours without power. Consequently many households and business outlets alike have suffered frustrating inconvenience and huge expenses.

We all wondered how could such hardships take place in this day and age. Equipment such as sub-stations need servicing every now and then otherwise you undoubtedly get power failures. Consumers should get what they clearly pay for. Senior Enemalta officials would do well to carry out on-site inspections every now and then so that they can get feedback from their subordinates at work.

A few years back, the French health minister gave up his post after he admitted he failed to advise the public to consume copious amounts of water because of the high temperatures then affecting the country, when a good number of elderly people died of dehydration. Surely there is a lesson for Enemalta there.
