The Malta Employers’ Association has called for an immediate stop to industrial actions at Enemalta.

"The actions are having a negative impact on third parties who are not involved in the dispute, as the suspension of pending applications for services for commercial entities is affecting many businesses and job creation," the MEA said.

The GWU has instructed the workers not to use the computerised management system in protest over the redeployment of staff in the credit control section without prior agreement.

The Employers' Association said that the dispute had been taken to the Industrial Tribunal and there was no point in disrupting the operations of Enemalta at this stage.

"The disruptions caused by these actions are disproportionate to the issue," the association added.

GWU REACTION

The GWU said it could not understand how employer organisations called on it to stop its industrial action, without calling on Enemalta to stop its discriminatory actions against the workers.

The Union said the MEA should also press Enemalta to accept the union demand for an independent inquiry into its actions.

Had the corporation accepted this proposal, the directives would have been stopped, the GWU said.
