Enemalta Corporation this month held three full scale safety and security simulations. These exercises have been structured to ensure a smooth operation in the eventuality of a similar real life event.

In the first event, Enemalta’s security officers and fire prevention team, the Civil Protection Department, the police, the Malta Maritime Authority and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team of the Armed Forces of Malta responded to a mock bomb explosion at Marsa Power Station to test their readiness for a major incident at any of the power stations.

In the second operation, a fire and personnel injury incident were simulated at the gas bottling plant in Qajjenza. Enemalta’s fire prevention team rescued an ‘injured’ person and put out the fire while ensuring that all Gas Division employees were evacuated hastily. The police and the CPD also took part in this exercise.

The latest exercise was at the 31st March installation in Birzebbuga. Enemalta’s personnel responded to a hypothetical situation where a heavy duty vehicle develop faults and blocked the entrances of the plant . This could therefore endanger the operations of the installation. The police, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and the CPD took part in this exercise.

The exercises, aimed at testing the readiness of Enemalta employees and rescue operatives for any similar real-life events, are planned to continue.
