The head of the Enemalta fire section has been recommended to form part of a delegation of six experts from European countries to assist the Cypriot authorities in assessing and evaluating the damage caused by an explosion at a naval base and a power station at Vasilikos.

The recommendation came from the Monitoring and Information Centre (MIC) of the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

Enemalta's chief officer corporate services said that although the corporation was duty bound to offer the best expert service available in all circumstances, it was still very proud that its experts in civil protection and fire containment were regarded as European class.

Michael Falzon's experience in Cyprus would not only be an opportunity to promote Malta's image and the abilities but also an opportunity to cultivate closer contacts, expertise and better relations with other European states and professionals.

Engineer Falzon will be wearing the Enemalta fire section uniform and fire protection gear.

The Maltese flag has been purposely embroidered on the sleeve of his right arm.
