A Victorian-era pleasure pier put up for auction with a guide price of £400,000 has failed to find a buyer.

Bids at the sale for Cleethorpes Pier in North East Lincolnshire reached £390,000 but did not meet an undisclosed reserve price, Lincoln-based Swindells Auctioneers said. The firm is still hopeful that a sale of the 335-ft pier, which is home to a bar and restaurant, can be arranged in the coming weeks.

Auctioneer Edward Swindells said he was "disappointed" that the pier did not attract a buyer.
