More than 2,000 youths found a job last year with the help of the Employment and Training Corporation.

Announcing an employment programme for young people, Youth Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli said an estimated 28,000 young men and women were expected to follow suit in the next three years.

The programme increases the chances of youths finding a job by offering them a wide range of training courses that also include integration in their place of work. It also aims to raise awareness about their rights and duties.

Speaking at an employment fair, Mr Puli said last year was, without doubt, difficult and left its effects on the economy. "Notwithstanding, our country can look ahead with optimism as it continues to attract more investment as a result of several government initiatives for industry and the dedicated and well trained workers," he said.
