The Malta Employers’ Association has welcomed the launch of an Employability Index by the prime minister this morning.

The index is being compiled by the Ministry of Education and Employment and the ETC.

"The index is a very positive step in guiding students to make informed choices about the employability aspects of the different courses available at tertiary level in Malta," the MEA said.

It noted that the index showed that, in general, the employment levels of Maltese students who have completed tertiary level education is higher than that prevailing in the European Union.

It also demonstrated that the percentage of people who are not in jobs related to their studies varies considerably between different disciplines. Some areas offered better chances of jobs which are related to the field of study than others.
