A 1974 Piper pa31p registered in the US this evening made an emergency landing at Malta International Airport.

The aircraft, owned by Maps Geosystems Inc, turned off its engine on the runway and airport fire engines went to its assistance.

The cause of the emergency could have possibly been a bird strike, sources said.
