The Maltese embassy in Washington has spent almost €39,000 on a new car for the ambassador and the removal of trees from her official residence.

Foreign Minister George Vella told Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli in reply to a parliamentary question that €8,241 were spent on the removal of several ‘hazardous’ trees at the ambassador’s house in Washington.

€30,520 were spent on the purchase of a new official car, a BMW.

In reply to another question, by Nationalist MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici, the minister also listed the following spending made in the embassy:

Whitewashing of the first floor (€379.51); replacement of the door lock of the visas room (€111.10); repairs to an electrical fault in the kitchen ( €114.08); new instructions linked to the circuit breaker (€266.00); reconfiguration of the security system (€244.74); repairs to the roof (€2,648.22 and €26,486.15).
