The US Embassy has called for creative ideas from interested organizations and individuals for a community based project that would enable people from different backgrounds, faiths and ethnicities to come together to mark the September 11 events.

The embassy said it plans to mark September 11 with an inter-faith day of service. But since September 11 falls during Ramadan, the commemoration will be delayed until the week of October 4.

It said it is already considering an event for school children with a theme of cross cultural understanding or a writing competition among school students on the topic of religious and ethnic tolerance.

US Chargé d'Affaires Jason Davis confirmed the Embassy's commitment to encouraging inter-faith dialogue, noting that Ambassador-designate Douglas Kmiec had indicated that one of his principal goals during his tenure in Malta would be to encourage dialogue among the diverse faith communities around the Mediterranean and beyond, an effort that Malta was very well-positioned to facilitate.

Ideas may be submitted at usembmalta@state.gov.
