Current information in civic amenity sites is intended to inform the public of the possible reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and entice it to use the sites, Resources Minister George Pullicino told Parliament.

Answering a question by Leo Brincat (MLP), the minister said the electricity which is eventually to be produced by these civic amenity sites is estimated to amount to 26.34 kilowatts per hour, or around 120,000 units a year.

This means civic amenity sites would be carbon-neutral, or generating as much energy as they needed to function. The minister declined to translate this amount of energy into a percentage of the consumption on a national scale.
