An elderly man is expected to be charged with the defilement of a 14-year-old girl in St Paul's Bay last Saturday.

The man, an Italian national who lives in St Paul's Bay, is being accused of taking the girl into a garage in St Mary Street around 11.30am and forcing her to perform lewd acts, the police told Times of Malta. 

The girl, a Hungarian national, managed to run away from the scene and informed her parents, who filed a report at the Qawra police station. She was taken to hospital for tests while the suspect was rounded up by the police and arrested. 

It is not yet known whether the suspect, who is believed to be around 70 years old, will be charged in court today.
