Eight nominations have been submitted for the election of deputy leaders of the Labour Party, the MLP electoral commission said today.

The period for nominations opened on Thursday and closed today.

Carmelo Abela, Chris Cardona, Anglu Farrugia and Jose' Herrera are seeking the post of deputy leader for parliamentary affairs. The post is currently held by Charles Mangion, who is not standing for re-election.

Another four nominations were submitted for the post of deputy leader, party affairs.

The candidates are Toni Abela, Clyde Joe Cassar, Gavin Gulia and Joe Mifsud. Whoever is elected will succeed Michael Falzon, who is also not seeking re-election.

Voting will take place on Thursday and should no candidate/s win an absolute majority, run-offs will be held on Friday between the top candidates for the elections for the two posts.
