An Egyptian who pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine in Gozo three years ago was today given a suspended sentence.

Hussein Hamada, 25, who lives on the sister island, denied  charges of breaching bail and relapsing.

Prosecuting Inspector Frank Anthony Tabone explained that the charge of trafficking was actually “trafficking by sharing”.

The Gozo Cour, presided by Magistrate Neville Camilleri, ruled that the prosecution had failed to produce sufficient evidence to prove that Mr Hamada had breached his bail conditions.

However, the Egyptian was convicted on the other charges and sentenced to a year’s jail term, suspended for two years. He was also slapped with a €1,000 fine.

Lawyers Franco Debono, Angie Muscat and Joseph Grech were defence counsel.
