The one tablet computer per child project will start being rolled out next year, starting from Year Four students, the finance minister said in the Budget speech.
He also announced that new childcare centres will be set up in Zebbug, St Julian’s and Floriana.
A residential and community centre will be built at the university. In Gozo, work will start on a campus for students at doctorate level. At Mcast, new blocks will be built for the institutes of engineering and transport, the library and the Learning Support Unit.
In a literacy initiative each school will get 100 new books, half in Maltese and half in English.
Infrastructural projects will include the first phase of a new school in St Paul's Bay, an extension of the wardija Centre, a new soccer ground at Marsaskala school and secondary schools in Kirkop and Dingli. Funds will be allocated for an additional storey at Mariam Al Batool school.
The Finance Minister also announced that the government will partner the private sector to set up an agency called Education Malta to promote Malta as an education centre.
