The Education Ministry has again rebutted claims by the Malta Union of Teachers that its officials were not being allowed to visit state schools.

The ministry said in a statement this evening there had ever been any difficulty with this, as long as the visits were carried out in agreement with the education authorities and in a way which was not detrimental to lessons.

The Malta Union of Teachers said yesterday that its president and senior vice-president had gone to the kindergarten centre at Mosta Primary A to investigate long-standing reports of overcrowding but they were denied entry.

The ministry said it was not true that the minister was being confrontational with the union and before this incident she had invited the MUT for a meeting to discuss pending issues. This invitation was still open.

The Educational Services directorate said that MUT officials who visited the Mosta school yesterday went to measure classrooms during lessons and without giving any prior notice.
