The Education Ministry explained today that application forms for Supplementary Maintenance Grants this scholastic year were made available to students by the Student Maintenance Grants Board through the respective stipends offices as well as online.

In an explanation after a PN statement yesterday calling for speedy processing of applications, the ministry said it It was clearly emphasised that all applications were to be submitted through the respective stipends offices by not later than the 31st November 2014 accompanied by all relevant documentation as per same application. Furthermore the SMG Board had decided that payments to all approved students were to be effected with the January stipend.

All approved supplementary stipends have been communicated to students and are being processed for payment. Payment is due on January 28 and will include October, November and December grants, the ministry said.

Students who have not presented relevant documentation have been asked to take action and present these documents as early as possible to ensure that they be considered at the first opportunity. A decision will be issued and communicated to students within a week of presentation of requested documentation.

The ministry said that this scholastic year there was a considerable increase in supplementary applications. Applications submitted by end of November 2014 amounted to more than 2,000.
