The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry has welcomed the long-overdue payments of eco-contribution refunds.

In a statement, it said member companies which formed part of an authorised waste management scheme between 2006 and 2008 had started to receive the refunds they were due.

Between 2006 and 2010, companies were obliged to pay both eco-contribution and fees to waste management schemes, becoming subjected to a dual payment.

The refunds were yesterday also welcomed by GreenPak, which has since 2005 been claiming that companies participating in its scheme were entitled to be exempted from the payment of eco-tax since they were financing the recycling of packaging they placed on the market.
