The University of Malta’s Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy, in collaboration with the Astronomical Society, is organising an observation night to view the partial lunar eclipse that will be visible from Malta during moonrise on August 7.

The event will be at Aħrax tal- Mellieħa, close to the Immaculate Conception Chapel.

Members of the Institute and of the Astronomical Society will guide those attending.

Although telescopes will be set up, the partial eclipse itself, which will be most intense at 8.20pm, would be easily visible with the naked eye.

Later on in the night, planets Jupiter and Saturn, as well as some nebulae and star clusters, will be observed.

Lecturers and students from the institute will be on site to speak to prospective students about their research areas within the Institute.

Amateur astronomers from within the Astronomical Society will also be available to assist all those interested in starting out in amateur astronomy.
