A patient infected with Ebola in Africa has arrived at a military air base outside Atlanta and is being taken to a hospital in the US city.

Dobbins Air Reserve Base spokesman Lt Col James Wilson said the first of two Americans who worked for missionary groups arrived on a flight that landed today.

Samaritan's Purse missionary group told The Associated Press that Dr Kent Brantly was on the plane.

He worked at a hospital in Liberia that treats Ebola patients.

He and another aid worker will be treated at a special isolation unit at Emory University Hospital.

A private jet is being used that is outfitted with a special, portable tent designed to transport patients with highly infectious diseases.
