British no-frills airline easyJet said today that its annual net profits soared by 70 percent despite earnings being hit by disruption to air travel caused by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud.

Easyjet said profit after tax jumped to 121.3 million pounds (143 million euros, 194 million dollars) in the 12 months to September 30, up from 71.2 million pounds in 2008/09.
