Gas company Easygas pledged to give consumers €25 for every reusable gas cylinder they returned even if they did not have a receipt.

Easygas described statements by rival company Liquigas not to refund the deposit without a receipt as “unfair and dishonest” and argued that the deposits taken were equivalent to or in excess of the price of a cylinder. Thus, it added, if a cylinder was lost, the company owning the cylinder would not suffer financial prejudice because it would have collected the cost of the cylinder from the very start.

“Easygas declares that, since it too takes a deposit on each of its cylinders that is equivalent to its cost, its clients can transfer, for a price, any Easygas cylinder as they wish,” it said.
