After succumbing to closest rivals Tabsat in their previous match, Division One leaders Fina managed to increase their lead at the top in week 17 thanks to their easy 8-0 win over relegated Active and Tabsat's 6-2 defeat at the hands of Royal Shock.

Ramis stayed third after their six-point win over NINE who are now in the drop zone, while the remaining matches, Centro Casalinga vs Turu's Knights and Globalair Travel vs Café Ole' ended four-all.

Fina can make sure of retaining the title with a week to spare if things go their way in week 18, having thrashed Active 8-0 with minimal effort. The game results progressed 752- 583, 813- 615 and 778- 639 in what looked more like a training session for the defending champions who have opened up a nine-point gap over Tabsat at the top. A maximum victory in the penultimate week would confirm Fina as champions.

Tabsat's hopes suffered a setback after their unexpected 6-2 loss to sixth-placed Royal Shock. Both sides began well but game one went to Tabsat 781-823. Royal Shock responded well in the second which they scooped with a 743-698 scoreline, and then rounded off with a great 858 against Tabsat's inadequate 730 in game three for the match.

Tabsat are sure of at least second place with just two fixtures remaining, but need some results to go in their favour if they have any hope for the top spot.
