It is unbearable to listen to the news and watch this Armageddon that has befallen Japan.

And when things start to pick up momentum, something else crops up which puts their hopes lower than before.

In this context I would like to suggest to the European commissioner responsible for the conservation of fish species to ease up on the quotas of tuna and other species of fish, popular in Japan, at least for this year. It will take time to restore confidence in their waters as radioactive material continues to plague their sea.

All the help in the world won’t solve this crisis but every little helps and we can do our bit by guaranteeing a good supply of safe fish to complement their own.

I host Japanese students and they worry to no end that their fish and livestock might be affected by this wave of unfortunate events. Our quotas can be restored by year’s end.
