E-commerce in 2018 generated €1.8 billion worth of sales, up 14.3 per cent over the previous year.

The National Statistics Office said on Thursday that the number of enterprises conducting sales through e-commerce showed an increase of 4.2 percentage to 21.6 per cent from 17.4 per cent.

The figures showed that 85.1 per cent of companies now have their own website, up from 84 per cent, while 97 per cent use computers, up from 96.8 per cent.

Technology has not, however, changed some aspects of business: the majority of companies still sent and received invoices in paper form.
