Dutch police said yesterday they seized nearly seven tonnes of cannabis worth an estimated €40 million in a raid in a warehouse outside Amsterdam.

A 35-year-old man who is the suspected trafficker and the man who rented the Nieuw-Vennep warehouse have been detained over the cannabis, both leaves and resin, which were found in ready-to-sell packages hidden in cardboard boxes in a container.

“The investigation is continuing. We don’t exclude making more arrests,” said Amsterdam police spokeswoman Claudia van Zanten. She could not specify the origin of the drugs, which were seized in an August 17 raid.
