A Dutch bar owner was given a five-month jail term suspended for two years after he admitted in court today to having smoked in his bar on Sunday morning and being violent at policemen who tried to stop him.

The man, Aarnoud De Hamer, 43, from St Paul's Bay, admitted to being drunk, slightly injuring an officer, and refusing to give his particulars.

Mr De Hamer told the court that he was sorry for his actions and that he wanted to apologise to the police officers involved.
