Contractors are digging up Santa Liberata Street and Progress Street, in Kalkara, to install power cables for SmartCity and the new buildings at Kalkara Valley. Heavy dust, noise and inconveniences are evident and a lot of rubble, trucks of it, was deposited in front of our home.

I approached the warden about covering trucks with canvas in order not to spread dust all over, according to law, and also asked what residents could do in such a situation, where all laws on dust, noise and inconvenience are being contravened without any consideration for us. The warden replied that he was there to control the traffic!

The trenches are covered with heavy steel plates so that the through traffic can proceed at night. These steel sheets are not lined in rubber so, every time a vehicle passes over, the noise cuts out all sleep in our home. Can they please close Santa Liberata Street for the nights?

May I invite council members, Enemalta and the ministry to come up and see what can be done when there are so many laws being contravened? The last time they laid the cables for Go, the workmen left all the remaining pipes and the asphalt truck deposited all its remains in front of our homes. I informed the council but nothing was done about the asphalt.

To add insult to injury, another warned me to clean my dusty car as it may be a hazard to other people's clothes. In such situation, can I claim for the car wash, at least?
