Ever fancied being served by a member of Parliament?

Well, the opportunity has just come along as MPs from both sides of the House will be serving pizza to patrons at the NSTS Aquacentre on July 31 in aid of a good cause.

Entitled Pizza Night by MP, the event is being organised by the Kilimanjaro Challenge Team IV, whose mission is to raise €65,000 to subsidise the first phase of the construction of an orphanage in Nyamonge, Kenya.

The orphanage, which will be called the Oasis of Peace, will host babies and children whose parents have contracted or died of AIDS. The Kisumu Municipality, where Nyamonge is located, is one of the worst areas in Kenya in terms of HIV due to poverty in the region and lack of sex education.

The MPs confirmed so far are Evarist Bartolo, David Agius, Carmelo Abela, Owen Bonnici, Helena Dalli and Jason Azzopardi and MEP Louis Grech.

The Kilimanjaro Challenge team, made up of 14 people from all walks of life, is training hard to make it to the summit of the Kilimanjaro in the first week of September.

The members have been meeting at least three times a week since October to trek together, come rain or shine. The aim is not only to build their physical stamina but also to develop the psychological strength and determination they need to make it to the top of Africa's highest peak.

The Kilimanjaro is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world with an altitude of 5,891.8 metres. In preparation for the climb, the group has recently taken part in a training expedition on Mount Etna, Sicily.
