A woman who resisted the police when she was stopped because she was drunk and unable to take care of herself was yesterday fined €1,200 and placed on probation for two years.

Pauline Zahra, 42, from Mosta, pleaded guilty to assaulting a traffic police inspector and two police sergeants, threatening them, slightly injuring a woman police sergeant, driving her Nissan car while under the influence, refusing to take a breathalyser test, swearing in public, breaching the peace, disobeying police orders, giving false particulars and being inebriated in public. The incident started at about 7pm on Saturday at the Valletta police station and continued later at the police headquarters in Floriana.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke ruled that the €1,200 fine could be settled in monthly instalments.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Scicluna and Mark Mercieca prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino was defence counsel.
