A drunk and rowdy Bulgarian woman who bit a policewoman on the arm was yesterday given a suspended jail term.
Police officers arrested 29-year-old Ivelina Petkova last Sunday after residents in Qawra reported a drunken woman howling at the top of her voice in the street and crying.
After they tried to find out what the problem was, the woman became aggressive and PS Ivan Mifsud, PC James Cardona and WPC Loren Vella arrested her.
She then bit WPC Vella on the arm.
In yesterday’s arraignment, Ms Petkova admitted to trying to seriously injure WPC Vella, slightly injuring her, resisting arrest, refusing to give her particulars, disturbing the peace, being drunk in public to the point of not being able to look after herself and swearing in public.
After taking into consideration her early guilty plea, Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani handed down a six month jail term suspended for two years.
Police Inspector Edmond Cuschieri prosecuted.
