A 28-year-old man today received a suspended sentence and a fine after drunkenly roaming the Paceville streets clutching a glass.

Rapid Intervention Unit police doing the patrol rounds spotted Igor Nakvasin roaming the streets in the early hours of Thursday with a glass in his hand.

When told by the police that it was forbidden to carry glass containers in the streets, the accused drunkenly refused to obey and even aimed a kick at one of the police officers.

He was charged with assaulting police officers, being drunk in public, breaching public peace and handling a glass container in a restricted zone.

Appearing before Magistrate Doreen Clarke and looking the worse for wear, the accused pleaded guilty.

He was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for two years and fined €800 which he is to pay within two days.

Police inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted. Legal aid lawyer Noel Cutajar appeared for the accused.
