A 35-year-old man has been handed a suspended sentence after admitting to going on a drunken rampage and damaging two cars and a residence's front door.

Ben Nael Abumeniar, from Libya, was arraigned before Magistrate Neville Camilleri and charged with damaging two cars yesterday at 6.15am in St Julian's. The value of the damage did not surpass €250 per vehicle.

He was also charged with damaging the door of a residence - which also did not surpass the €250 mark - slightly injuring a woman, breaching public peace and being drunk and disorderly in public.

Legal aid lawyer Victor Bugeja entered a guilty plea on behalf of the accused. He appealed for a suspended sentence, noting it would be a fitting punishment in view of his early admission and lack of prior convictions.

The court sentenced him to one year imprisonment suspended for two years.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
