A 25-year-old man was handed a suspended sentence today after he admitted in court to have assaulted two AFM soldiers who refused to let him speak to the President at San Anton Palace early on Thursday.

The man, Karl Chrisopher Ebejer, a British citizen resident in Attard, admitted that he was drunk at the time.

The incident took place at 6.30 a.m.

Informed sources said the man made his way to the Palace through San Anton Gardens and told the soldiers on guard duty that he wanted to speak to the President. The man became aggressive when his request was turned down.

The man admitted in court today to having assaulted the soldiers, ignored their orders, disturbed the peace and uttered vulgar words.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for a year. Inspector Bernard Charles Spiteri prosecuted.
