An Eritrean man was sent to seven months in jail and slapped with a €5,000 fine after assaulting and resisting a number of police officers while drunk.

The incident happened on October 24, at the Marsa park-and-ride around 6.30am.

Kubrom Berhe Haile, 24, who has a Maltese residency permit but no fixed address, was accused of resisting and threatening the police as well as disobeying their orders.

Inspector Roderick Agius also charged him with causing damages on police property, breaching the peace and slightly injuring an officer who was trying to restrain him.

The court, presided by Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, found the man guilty of all charges.
