A British man who binged on alcohol on Wednesday night was today accused of attacking the police and resisting his arrest.

Liam Oliver Smith, 27, employed with a local life insurance firm, allegedly caused the disturbance in Paceville at 2.45am on Thursday morning.

Crying profusely throughout his arraignment, Mr Smith was also accused of being “dead drunk” when he disobeyed police orders and breached the peace.

Mr Smith pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted him bail against a deposit of €500 and a €2,000 personal guarantee.

Police Inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted while lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha appeared for the Englishman.
