A 41-year-old car oil importer found guilty by a jury this afternoon of possessing eight kilogrammes of cannabis with the intention to traffic, was jailed for 18 years. He was also fined 40,000 euros.

He was found not guilty of the possession of heroin.

The prosecution had said that Mr Mifsud had placed a large haul of cannabis resin in the boot of a car belonging to Victor Magri, now deceased, in November 2004.
