Aphron Agius, 35 of St Julians, was today jailed for 14 years after being convicted of conspiring to import, importing and trafficking over 2kg of heroin. He was also fined €32,000.

The man was arrested at the airport after drug was found in a false compartment of his luggage in June 2005.The drug had a street value of Lm54,000.

The court had heard that Mr Agius had conspired with other people to import drugs from Istanbul. On arrival of the heroin in Malta he was to consign it to another person and was to be paid.
