Two drug addicts have been jailed two years each after stealing car stereos from 12 cars.
Kurt Grima, 24, and Mario Farrugia, 44, carried out the thefts last month and this month.
The police caught the men after an anonymous telephone call at 3 a.m. last Thursday informing them that two men were acting very suspiciously. The police spotted the men carrying an amplifier, which they admitted they had stolen from a car. Subsequently they gave the full details of the other cars they had stolen from, Police Inspector Anthony Portelli said during the arraignment.
The two also stole other items, including a blackberry phone, a camera and a handbag.
Mr Grima, aided by lawyer Mark Busuttil, admitted to stealing from 12 cars while Mr Farrugia admitted to stealing from seven of them.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera took into account Mr Farrugia’s early admission and jailed him for two years. She jailed Mr Grima for the same period and warned him that if he went to jail again it would be for a lot longer. She noted she was taking into consideration the 36 convictions on his criminal record.
