The volume and wholesale value of fish landings decreased by 25.1 and 22.4 per cent, respectively, in the fourth quarter last year, when compared to the same period in 2013, according to the National Statistics Office.

The NSO said there were 172,672 kilograms of fish landings. The drop was mainly in swordfish (-67.7 per cent) and dorado (-49.2 per cent). The wholesale value of fresh fish landings declined to €954,868.

Maltese fishermen landed 136,253 kilograms (-4.4 per cent), equivalent to 78.9 per cent of total landings. Fresh fish landings by Gozitan fishermen decreased by 58.6 per cent over the comparative period a year earlier.
